Not directly related to the topic above, but right
outside of Jeremie at a location called Anse d'Azur,
there is a small German submarine that lies right off
the beach and is visible from the beach as well as
from the nearby road(it is about 100 metres or so from
shore.) 

The story I have been told about this sub is that it
ran aground during WWII and the shipmates were
"arrested" by the local authorities. They lived in the
town for quite some time, were allowed to go weherever
they pleased, and went back to Germany at the end of
the war. I cannot vouch for the accuracy of that
story, but the sub is there for all to see.
