This was the original pawol granmoun, of course, and the "pep-la"
derivative was a political reinterpretation of the original.  In it's
revised form, it came to mean that while a progressive political change
could be reversed,  the experince of freedom and power, however temporary,
couldn't be undone and that it would reside in the popular memory.
