To the person who gave the post, you've probably uncovered Price-Mars'
analysis of them.  Bouqui was the Casale, African born.  Ti Malice
represents the Creole.  I don't recall if he mentioned specifically the
African folkloric origins of the pair, but he discusses them both, and the
specific African roots of Haitian culture, in _Thus Spoke the Uncle_

Also, he discusses the tension between the two communities in _Formation
Ethnique, Cultural et Folk-lore du Peuple Haitien_ but less specific
discussion of Bouqui and Malice.
