a1145: Re: 1129: Interview with historian Christophe Wargny, former adviser of President Aristide, by Gotson Pierre (fwd)

I find it interesting that not a single Haitian from the streets I have
asked even remotely knows or identifies with Mr. Wargny or his statements.
That is not to say he is not a giant intellect of the first caliber, but
merely to note that among the people who I consider to be most affected by
the conditions in this country, he is an unknown quantity.

This situation very much reminds me of other issues and struggles in which
the thrust of US foreign policy colored the reality and truth on the ground.
In this reality punditry becomes an artform and virture unto itself wherein
other people's lives are impacted from afar by the "experts" paraded around
to give testimony. The ultimate goal is not so much to get one to agree with
their position but to wear you down with so many negative interpretations
that you finally give up caring out of sheer exasperation. It has worked
before and it may work again but I urge everyone not to give up caring,
don't break under the weight of this campaign of false parallelisms and
misinformation. The poor majority of the Haitian people deserve better and
each and every one of us can still make a difference in their lives.
