a1348: Re: a1337: creole children songs on cd or tape (fwd)

From: JHUDICOURTB@aol.com

There is an excellent but rare cassette tape by Lionel Benjamin and children
which used to be for sale from Centre d'Education Special. All the songs are
in Creole and fun, appropriate for classroom use. There are also some
recordings made in Canada by someone called Mimi Barthelemy which have songs
in both Creole and French; I think one of them is called La Reine Soleil. I
lost mine so I am working on memory. The Methodist church in Jacquet
publishes educational materials and has a book of songs for children in both
French and Creole. It has a cassette to go with the book but with the
strange concept of just providing one verse with one voice for each of the
songs. The cassette is just to help teachers who can't read music know how
the song goes. It also has a few songs that we in the diaspora would find
inappropriate because they depict some ethnic groups in a negative manner
like "Avez-vous vu les petits chinois..." The Haitian dialogue on race and
ethnicity is very unsophisticated as you may know....
