President Aristide participates in a conférence on financing development
taking place in Mexico

Port-au-Prince, March 21, 2002 -(AHP)- President Aristide appealed to the
Haitian people Wednesday to be vigilant and to refrain from yielding to
provocation during his absence from the country.

Mr. Aristide traveled to Monterrey (Mexico) to participate in the conference
of some 60 heads of state on the subject of funding development.

He also asked members of grass roots organizations and the Haitian people in
general to maintain a climate of peace in the country.

However the president pointed out that the Haitian Constitution confers upon
each citizen and upon all organizations the right of free expression, to
carry out their activities with a maximum amount of freedom, and to hold
meetings consistent with respect for the law.

The Head of State said that he recognizes that the country is currently
confronting numerous problems and that many demands remain unsatisfied.

He also commented that all the difficulties can not be resolved by a simple
stroke of a magic wand. He promised to address the problems in order to ease
the suffering of the population.
