a1620: Re: a1616: DR1: Win-win situation for DR and Haiti : Poincy comments: WIN-LOSE instead (fwd)

From: "[iso-8859-1] Jean Poincy" <caineve@yahoo.fr>

The deal between DR and Ayiti is a very bad one. That
makes the situation a WIN-LOSE.

No free zone will help resolve Ayiti's economic
problems regardless the setting if it does not create
backward linkages with the primary sector where inputs
for final products are to be generated.

The Ayitian government is duped. Ayitians should not
let themselves be lured by some few jobs which are
superficial. The meager income the few might have will
never spur economic growth. Morever, it would go right
back to DR for basic comsumption. How would Ayiti be a
winner?

Because labor activists are complaining about working
conditions, they throw this card in to make them
happy. In fact they are no indications that the free
zone will stir the Ayitian economic structure. If
there are provisions that call for input production in
Ayiti and are not made public yet, I am wrong. If not
it will further destroy Ayiti's economy.

It's just a replica of the assembly industry in Ayiti,
but closer to a place where they can avoid political
turmoil. In the event that there are problems, rather
than closing shop, they will convert back door to
front door in DR so business will go on as usual. That
way they will not incur any loss for lack of
activities.

It's better to have nothing than having that as a
means to relieve the people's misery.

Ayiti has lived, lives and will live
