Officers of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force apprehended a total of 20
illegal Haitian immigrants on Monday in three separate incidents.
These recent arrests brought the arrests by the Defence Force to 1,428 for
the year.
While on routine patrol at 3:05 p.m., the Patrol craft HMBS P-1110 of the
Harbour Patrol Unit, spotted a 44-foot Haitian wooden sloop with Bahamian
registration number NT-051112, named " Family".
The vessel was intercepted just outside of Nassau Harbour, in the vicinity
of Club Med. After a search of the vessel, the boarding team discovered
seven male immigrants on board without the necessary documents to enter the
country. Subsequently, they were arrested and turned over to Immigration
authorities for further processing.
Thirteen illegal Haitian immigrants in two separate incidents were
apprehended by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force early Monday morning near
Athol Island.
Around 8:00 a.m. while on routine patrol, the patrol craft HMBS P-110 under
the command of the Harbour Patrol Unit, spotted a 45-foot Haitian wooden
sloop named "Beat Night of The Sea", just off East End Point, near Athol
Island.
After a search of the vessel, the boarding team discovered seven male
immigrants onboard. They apparently did not possess the necessary documents
to enter the country, and were subsequently turned over to Immigration
authorities for further processing.
Around 9:40 a.m., Defence Force officers apprehended six more Haitians, five
males and one female on board a 47-foot wooden sloop named "Miss Lucie",
just off the Montagu Bay area.
The Haitians also did not have the proper documents to enter the country,
and were turned over to Immigration authorities for processing.
