12039: Re: 12035: Who did cause these sanctions to be imposed? by James R. Morrell (fwd)

FROM: Kevin Pina <kpinbox@hotmail.com>

Mr. Morrell has had an obvious axe to grind with President Aristide for
quite sometime now. To the point where his obvious bias has clearly begun to
shine through just as it has with RSF and Mr. Menard.

Were not the OAS and the international commmunity involved in overseeing, in
an advisory capacity, each and every phase of the election process of May
21, 2000? One cannot help but ask Mr. Morrell, when did the OAS become aware
of the discrepensies with the ballot counting methods utilized in the May
2000 elections? Was the OAS not intimately involved in monitoring the ballot
counting process as well? Were not the initial appraisals of the elections
overwhelmingly positive until it became apparent that Lavalas had swept them
by and large? Does he not find it odd that Orlande Marville chose to damage
Haiti's electoral credibility by leaking his objections to the press, after
the results were published, rather than quietly negotiating a solution prior
to their announcement?

The truth is that Haiti's poor majority voted overwhelmingly for Lavalas and
that, by all calculations, only seven elected seats were effected by the
ballot counting procedures. Since then, those seven members of the
legislature have resigned, I repeat resigned, as a means of reaching a
compromise with the likes of the Convergence and Mr. Morrell. The only
conclusion one can draw is that he supports punishing the Haitian people for
their democratic choices rather then supporting the efforts of their
democratically elected representatives to find a solution. One cannot help
but wonder how he benefits personally from taking such an obstructionist
line on behalf of CIP.

Remember that prior to the May 21st elections, the Convergence and several
"undisclosed" diplomats made public accusations that President Preval was
acting upon orders to delay these same elections so they could be held
simultaneously with presidential elections to give Lavalas an unfair
advantage. Mr. Morrell was among these "coattail" theorists who has
consistently sought, created, then reiterated his mere assertions until
others have begun to repeat them as fact, when in reality they are not.

This is the modus operandi of the noveau foreign "protectorate" of Haitian
democracy who seem more concerned with making names for themselves off the
suffering of the Haitian people than with the reality. May God forgive them
expeditiously for I am finding it exceedingly difficult as each obfuscation
is uttered and peddled to the public in the name of truth and justice. Shame
on them.
