12090: Re: 12083: Jean Do -

From: Jean Saint-Vil <jafrikayiti@hotmail.com>

Onè,

Following the anonymous reply, I did some more searching on the net to see
what exists to confirm whether Jean dominique was or was not a member of
Fanmi Lavalas and I fell on a recently published piece by Michael Norton in
which we read:

"Montas said her husband never lost faith in the popular movement that first
brought Aristide to power in 1990 and that resisted the army in the bloody
1991-94 period of military-backed rule.

But after U.S. troops restored Aristide to power in 1994, Dominique had
second thoughts about the Lavalas Family party Aristide set up.

By the time he was killed, Dominique, who was never a party member, "had
begun to openly oppose the deterioration of Lavalas," Montas said. "

Excerpt of "Two years after unsolved murder of Jean Dominique, widow
denounces authorities" By MICHAEL NORTON, Associated Press Writer, seen on
Haitiwebs.com with date 04-05-2002.

This is in lign with the anonymous post but I would like to hear from Fanmi
Lavalas people whether or not Jean Dominique was ever a member of their
organization. For, as we recall, during the election period there were
accusations that former President René Préval was himself a member of Fanmi
Lavalas and was rigging the elections to favour his party. Haiti-Progres
denied this vehemently, in an article which discussed many Haitians'
suspicion of Washington foul play in Jean Dominique's ultimate silencing. So
can we please get some hard facts on the table. In April 2000, were Jean
Dominique and former President René Préval members of Fanmi Lavalas or not?
This shouldn't be an object of speculation.

My main concern however is not whether Jean Dominique was a member of FL or
not, although it would help our understanding and clear this matter up once
and for all.

My main concern is the following: Why is it some people are so quick to
dismiss as "black hand references of Lavalas apologists" any effort to
unburry the Electoral Coup d'Etat aspect of Jean Dominique's militantism?

Why?

Why is it even those who, when pressed to do so, mention Léopold Berlanger
but refrain from going further - i.e. admitting that Jean Do had the guts to
speak of USAID' role in trying to steal the elections away from the masses?
His beef was not with Berlanger per se, but with the USAID, IFES and their
masters as well. Why so much prudence? What is the monster so many are
afraid of?

For all the accusations that has been made against Haiti-Progrès, at least
they have had the courage to explore this issue of Electoral Coup d' Etat
and Washington antagonism with Jean Dominique's work as well as that of the
inter-Lavalas feud between Jean Do and Dany Toussaint.

Why is it the 4 sisters of global conditionning (Reuters, AP, BBC, AFP) are
incapable of such self-discipline, when dealing with this subject?

Also, why is it so little attention is being paid to the arrests already
made of alledged direct killers of Jean Dominique (see Reporter Sans
Frontière's report). Apparently, some of these people have links with Dany
Toussaint. Some have links with the U.S. Ambassy, some have links with both.
So why are our eyes being trained to look in a single direction?

Some of us are simply growing tired of all the pseudo journalism,
opportunist posturing and attempted brainwashing going on in the
"mainstream" media and some NGOs in the name of Justice for Jean Do. Can we
please have Judge Claudy Gassant back on this case? Or is he, like Léon
Manus, Guy Phillipe and many others simply going to vanish to live a quiet
life in the U.S. until no one really cares anymore about finding the truth
about what really happened. Thus, the dominant conclusions, inuendoes or
quarter truths of the 4 sisters will de-facto become The Truths!

Let there be a real trial, please !!!!!
