12276: Food & Solar Cookers (fwd)

In October, I will be leaving to spend a year on La Gonave, working on
projects with Chris Low (whom some list members may know) in Matenwa.

I am considering taking on the (enormous?) project of cooking lunch for the
130 school children in a solar cooker using Haiti-grown food.

I would like to hear from list members with knowledge or experience related
to a project like this. What would the price tag on the endeavor be? What
do I need to know about the food production and distribution system in
Haiti--especially as regards to La Gonave--and how do I learn it? What do
I need to understand culturally about an endeavor like this? Has anyone
already done this? What else do I need to know?

I have been in touch with Solar Cookers International.

Thanks,
Nancy Casey
