I took the bus two years ago.  It was US$50 round trip.  The bus leaves from
petionville early in the morning (about 8:00) and takes about 6 hours.  It
seemed to be almost empty when I took it. I don't think that it is necessary to
book ahead of time.  It left Santo Domingo at about 10:00 am and arrived in
Petionville at about 4pm.  I took the caribe tours bus

companies which run the same route.
