12476: A conference for young women in Haiti (fwd)

On May 27/28, 2002, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, 100 high school young women participated in an inter-generational encounter on the theme "Finding your voice: making personal and professional choices in order to create a lifeworth living".

Organized by Fondation Espoir, with financial and technical support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the seminar regrouped 13 highly accomplished women who shared their personal and professional experiences with the participants in panels and workshops. Among the panelists were Josseline Colimon Fethière, Director of the Haitian Bank-Promobank; Gina Ferrus-Duncan, Executive Director, Healing Hands for Haiti; Nancy Roc, journalist; Jane Wynn, organic farmer; Geri Benoit-Préval, founder of IFE, Bayyinah Bello, historian, Florence Bellande Robertson, professor and author and Edwidge Danticat, Haitian-American author of several works including "Krik Krak", "Eyes, Break and Memory" and the "Farming of Bones."

During the closing ceremony all the panelists received an award in recognition of their engagement in promoting positive images of Haitian women.
