12641: Long Island Haitians featured in U.S Catholics (fwd)

From: Nlbo@aol.com

Dear Corbetland,
This month's U.S Catholics is a special edition on Black Catholics. An
article written by Francois Pierre Louis on the Haitian Catholic community in
Rock Ville Centre (Long Island ) is featured in it.
The article began with the Flag Day celebration and a picture of a flag
procession in St Agnes church attracts one's attention. However, the essence
of his piece is the relationship between voodoo and Haitian catholism. Pierre
Louis also wrote about the exiled Holy Ghosts Fathers who brought Creole and
the drum to the Haitian community in New York and the continous rapport
between the Haitian Church here and the one in Haiti.
I would recommend this issue because one rarely sees an entire "mainstream"
religious magazine or journal dedicated to Black Catholics. Captions on
prominent Haitian Catholics like Elizabeth Lange, Pierre Toussaint , Juliette
Gaudin are also featured.
U.S catholics phone # is 1-800-328-6515 if any one wants to order that
special August 2002 issue.
Single copy is $2.50 5-50 $1.50 51-500 $1.00 and a $5.00 fee for
shipping and handling.
