PRESS RELEASE

La Troupe Makandal presents Bwa Kayiman.  Celebrate the historic
gathering that launched Haiti's Revolution in 1791.  Participate in a
drum-and-dance drama based on a rare nineteenth-century testimony.

	• Text written and performed by Makandal special guest artist Marguerite
Laurent, performance poet, dancer, and award-winning playwright

	• Traditional drumming composed and arranged by Master Drummer Frisner
Augustin, National Endowment for the Arts Heritage Fellow 1999

	• Ritual sequences and choreography by Erol Josue, Vodou priest, singer,
composer, dancer, and Director of Company Shango

Admission FREE.  Date and place: Sunday, 18 August, 4 pm, Prospect Park
Gran Bwa, Brooklyn, New York.  Enter the Park at the intersection of
Parkside Avenue and Ocean Avenue; walk about 150 yards straight to
lakeside.  Q local subway to Parkside Avenue (Parkside exit); or the 12
or 16 bus to Ocean and Parkside.
