Returning a legally elected president to his rightful office after being
illegally removed is the right thing to do. The coup leaders forced the
extreme measures that were taken by not negotiating in good faith with the
legal government in exile. MUCH LIKE THE OPPOSITION IS DOING NOW. (treason
in my book....it would be in this country if there were a group plotting the
overthrow of Bush) The kind of meddling being done since Aristide's return
is diabolical and covert....and in fact NOT TRANSPARENT to the American
people! And downright immoral and unethical (not that that bothers the CIA
or IRI or GOP!) You are comparing apples and oranges.

<< i would like to use leslie f. manigat who was president from feb 88- june
 88. after the coup d'etat that toppled his government, and his subsequent
departure, he was asked whether he would solicit aide from the oas and un
for his return (up to and including military involvement), he stated that he
would never caution the invasion of haitian soil by foreign troops, even if
it is to return to power. this is the act of a man who has a sense of
 history >>

This is the act of a man who was never elected to office and knew that he did
not have a mandate from the people.

>> aristide's act leaves a lot to be desired in that category, and
maybe can even be argued as treason, but before being more certain on that
point, i'd need to research a little more.<<

Yes, please do....research is always best before pronouncing guilt.
