13285: Senou: Senate to Hold Hearing on Haitian Detainees: Please call/fax and email your state Senator (fwd)

From: Senou <senou@yahoo.com>

Folks, The United States Senate Committee on the
Judiciary, Subcommittee on Immigration, will hold a
hearing on Tuesday, October 1, 2002, entitled "The
Detention and Treatment of Haitian Asylum Seekers."
Fax a letter, email and call your state senator. Be
kind and do not try to link your demand to the Cuban.
Explain why it is inhuman to single out the Haitian
citizen. You can touch their heart and be a diplomat
Talk about the fairness and the U.S. constitution and
the due process. You must be a registered voter and
invite your state senator to make a public statement
about it.
Try to get moderate republican and liberal democrat at
your side. Talk about the Haitian contribution in the
U.S. and please do not get upset. Do not call anyone
bias or racist because you cannot undo the damage.
Remember whatever you said cannot be taken back with a
mere apology, watch your words and stop making
sensational statements that can remove support to your
cause. Remember when you call someone bias or racist
that person may have tough time to deal with you in
the future and those who might be sensitive to your
cause might be reluctant in helping you out because
they don’t want to make a mistake and later for you to
start calling them bias. It is a medicine for
disaster: please do not.

Please include our contributions in this beautiful
country, follow the example of MLK, the march of
Washington you had seen Black, White, immigrant,
democrat and conservative. People will support you but
you cannot be too divisive. Choose your ally carefully
and do not make irresponsible statement and don’t make
it difficult for the new generation.
Please include this in your letter
