Dear Corbeteers - I've only just got round to reading the particular post on
Haitians being rude. But it was funny because I was at a seminar on Tourism
last week and one of the Haitian Hotel Managers was stating that the Hilton
hotel which has started being built here is reportedly bringing in their own
staff from outside. I was outraged saying how could they do that when
Haitians so badly needed work. He turned and said well Haitians are not used
to giving service. They equate service with slavery and therefore think that
when they do something for someone it is demeaning to them (the Haitian).

He said we have to give them training over and over again to instill in them
the idea that service is not slavery.

And I have to say however much I adore Haiti and live here and accept all
its problems and quirks, I see that the idea of service is totally anathema
to those in big offices/banks/immigration depts. etc. We are doing them a
service with our business!!!
