The US Coast Guard actually had spotted the migrants' vessel 2 miles
off-shore but chose not to confront it for fear of provoking a panic that
could capsize the boat, as has happened in the recent past with tragic
results. Police were already on the bridge waiting when the boat arrived,
having been informed by the Coast Guard of its approach. The Coast Guard did
not interdict this boat on the high seas, fully aware that it was not a
terrorist threat, out of concern for the safety of the migrants.
So, there is nothing "fishy" here, and evidently no conspiracy theory to
undermine the already tattered credibilty of the GOH. People in smaller
numbers are arriving successfully in South Florida all of the time, actually.
And some of them DO have credible fear of persecution in Haiti and therefore
deserve politcal asylum; please don't kid yourself.
