13667: Corbett: Caution on Selden Rodman book

>From Bob Corbett:

Folks, with the death of Selden Rodman some of you may want to
acquire his great history of Haitian art, WHERE ART IS JOY: THE FIRST
FORTY YEARS.

However, be very careful. This book above, published in 1988 by
Ruggles de Latour and reprinted in 1996 is certainly one of the three or
four best books every publishing on Haiti art and one that anyone would
want to own.

However, there is another item with a very very similar title:

WHERE ART IS JOY: FORTY YEARS OF HATIAN ART, published in 1989 with
Candice Russell, which is a short little exhibition catalogue. It is
a lovely small catalogue and one may well want it in one's collection,
but often dealers charge about the same as the do for the huge book
above and several people have written to me about this since they THOUGHT
they were purchasing the huge book and has purchased the small catelogue.

I have both in my own collection, but becareful in buying these items,
they are not the same book.
