Haiti Crowds Call For President's Ouster
Mon Nov 25, 8:53 PM ET

By MICHAEL NORTON, Associated Press Writer

"In the capital, more than 2,000 Aristide supporters marched through the
streets. Some demonstrated outside the National Palace and, on the way,
stoned an African studies center where anti-government students were
meeting. "

Thousands of anti-government protesters march in Haiti; pro-government
supporters answer with whips
Thu Nov 28, 2:35 PM ET

By JEAN-NUMA GOUDOU, Associated Press Writer

GONAIVES, Haiti

"Thousands of Haitians demonstrated against President Jean-Bertrand
Aristide's government on Thursday and clashed with whip-wielding Aristide
supporters."

Do you notice any similarity between these two quotes? Well you should
because they can be attributed to the same source, Jean-Numa Goudou.

Mr. Goudou works for local Radio Metropole which is popularly referred to as
"Radio Tripotaj", or lying rumors, and "Radio Convergence". Mr. Goudou was
seen inside the gates of the African studies center last Monday egging the
students on to throw stones at the peaceful Lavalas march as it passed by.
He had tape recorder in hand and his report that evening confirmed it was
indeed he as he was the only reporter within the gates. It appears Mike
Norton, and by extension the Associated Press, have chosen to reward Mr.
Goudou for this "objective" behavior by hiring him as a correspondent.

Radio Metropole has always been a vociferous, and at times, wreckless critic
of Lavalas and President Aristide. AP and Reuters regularly use Radio
Metropole as a major source of information about events in Haiti. I find it
interesting how Reporters Without Borders has conveniently made it nearly
impossible to criticize biases within the Haitian press without being
accused of supporting violence against them during this difficult period.
