14112: Saint-Vil regarding Cayes speech (fwd)

"In a partial report of the speech I've read, he clearly played the colour
card, telling his audience that he was black like them ("you've got the same
colour skin, you've got kinky hair like me") and that "they" (the rich and
by clear inference the multattos) "don't like you."

Sorry, but how did you reach this "clear" inference to "mulattos" monsieur
Chamberlain?

Couldn't the president have been just as easily referring to the others who
have shown this racial hatred towards Haitians over several centuries and
lately have been using all tricks in their dirty books to uproot Aristide's
government? Could it be that the president was referring to the gang made up
of the U.S. ambassador, the white-side-of-the- OAS: Otto Reich, Roger
Noriega, the Canadian and EU officials, Michael Norton, Robert Ménard,
whoever is the current CIA director, whoever helped Guy Phillipe escape to
the Dominican Republic, whoever is still helping Toto Constant live large in
New York, whoever is still trying to get Prosper Avril out of jail - as they
did - from the U.S. embassy in 1995. Could it be ???

Notice that on several occasions now, the president has referred to the
dreadful word "REPARATIONS" in his speeches. Is he speaking to mulattos in
these instances as well? I don't think so. I think he is referring to your
French government which Zenglendized 150 million Francs from us. I think he
is referreing to all the other slavery-enriched nations which continue (by
magic) to stand on the same side when it comes to defending the privileges
of white minorities be they in Zimbabwe, in South-Africa, in the Dominican
Republic or in Haiti.

is right, that the upper class and mulattos are indeed terrified at the
prospect of an attack on their citadel (even though it seems no more likely
than it ever does) "

More and more it seems to me these "upper class" guys are not enjoying their
"citadels" alone. They have plenty of friends from up north who come to
sleep over regularly in their citadels. Perhaps, the attack will never come
because it was never being prepared. Perhaps, as in South-Africa, it is the
attacked that is still being seen as the attacker - in your comic book - not
theirs of course. Perhaps Aristide's so-called chimères are no diffirent
than Winnie Mandela's soccer boys. And perhaps, the Boers' U.S. and european
friends are no different that that displayed on www.moun.com web pages
between Haiti's "upper class" guys and their american and european allies.

"and that their barely-veiled racism continues the same as ever, as we have
all seen."

Yes, they indeed sin by not masquareding theirs as the likes of Trent Lott
have managed to do so for a very long time. But, I am not so sure that's a
bad thing. At least with them (Haiti's Boers), we know what we are dealing
with.

"But that Aristide should have resorted to this now is perhaps some
indicator of the extent of the crisis and the stakes. Or is it just the
tactics of one politician lashing out ?"

I can only hope Aristide will muster to courage to go all the way. I hope he
will finally tell us why he is afraid to let a serious investigation proceed
on the murder of Jean Dominique, on the identity of the December 17th
attackers, on the report by "El Nacional" that the U.S. Ambassador dared ask
him to resign, etc...

"Can Michèle Karshan, in the interests of history, provide us with a
transcript of this speech? "

Yes Michèle, we would very much so like to see the english version of that
speech. And if you could, please take the opportunity to tell us when the
national palace site www.palaisnational.org -currently taken over by
casino-dealing folks will be up and running again.
