VODOU DRUM AND DANCE GROUP PRESENTS CARNIVAL DAWN ON JANUARY 11 IN
BROOKLYN

La Troupe Makandal presents Part Three (Carnival Dawn) of Rising Sun: a
Vodou Drama of Death and Rebirth.  Having passed through the Day of the
Dead in Part One and a Night of Fire in Part Two, audience will
participate in traditional Haitian rites of the New Year in Part Three.
Enjoy the koupe gato (cut the cake) ritual of Three Kings Day, and dance
with our Carnival band as it rises raucously out of a year of slumber.
Drumming and song under the direction of award-winning Master Drummer
Frisner Augustin, whom the New York Times called "a spectacular drummer."
 Dance and drama under the direction of dancer-singer Erol Josue, who
appeared in the films Des Hommes et des Dieux and Royal Bonbon.
Admission at the door: $12 general, $8 students/seniors/members; $5
children.

Saturday, 11 January, 8 pm
South Oxford Space, 138 South Oxford Street between Atlantic Avenue and
Hanson Place

Transportation:
Take the Brooklyn-bound local C to Lafayette Avenue.  Exit at the South
Oxford Street/Hanson Place stair.  Walk about 7 doors up from Hanson
Place to 138 South Oxford Street
or
Take the 2, 3, 4, 5, W, N, R, to the Atlantic Avenue/Pacific Street stop;
or the LIRR to Flatbush Avenue.  Exit at Hanson Place.  Walk along Hanson
Place toward the shopping mall 5 blocks to the traffic light, then make a
right onto South Oxford Street.  South Oxford Space is on your right.
or
Take the G train to Fulton Street.  Walk 2 blocks up Fulton Street to
South Oxford Street, then make a right onto South Oxford.  Cross Hanson
Place.  South Oxford Space is on the right about 7 doors up from Hanson
Place.
