First-time player claims

$21.6 million Lotto share

A Haitian resident of Miami who bought a Florida lottery ticket for the
first time claimed her huge winnings on Monday.

Jacquelin Ferdinand, 55, claimed her $21.6 million prize in Tallahassee two
weeks after the lottery drawing that made her rich, The Associated Press
reported.

"It was the first time I played Lotto and I chose the numbers," she said.
She said she bought her ticket for the July 26 drawing at a gas station.

Ferdinand decided to take her prize in one lump sum, $21.6 million after
taxes. Her gross winnings amounted to $40.4 million. The jackpot totaled
$80.9 million, but Ferdinand had to share the prize with another as yet
unknown winner.
