Port-au-Prince, August 21, 2003-(AHP)- The PLB party (Parti Louvri Baryè
(Open the Gates Party) (PLB), called on the opposition to respect the
constitution and the mandate of President Jean Bertrand Aristide.

PLB Secretary General François Pierre Louis warned that any attempt to oust
the constitutionally elected authorities could only worsen the country's
socio-political situation.

He characterized as "partisans of instability" those who, out of a madness
for power are calling for the ouster of the Chief of State.

"What must be changed are the bad practices of the government", he said.

On another note, François Pierre Louis took issue with the statements of some
opposition sectors alleging that there is a dictatorial regime in Haiti.

According to the PLB Secretary General, all those who have known the
dictatorship of the Duvaliers and that which prevailed before the coup d'état, know
very well that to speak of a dictatorship today is to lie to oneself and to lie
to others.

Mr. Pierre Louis offered as an example the freedom which he, like any other
political leader, has to denounce what is going poorly in the country.

" Who could have dared to criticize Duvalier and the coup leaders in 1991 ",
the PLB leader wondered.

According to him, the climate of intolerance that is currently alive in the
country is due largely to the fact that democratic institutions are not
functioning at full capacity due to the stagnation of the crisis for which all are
responsible.
