16863: Bellegarde-Smith: Haiti/Dominican Republic: Oct 15-22, Smith College (fwd)

From: P D Bellegarde-Smith <pbs@csd.uwm.edu>

Meridians is pleased to announce its first Caribbean Women Writers
Series, "Voices from Hispaniola: Haiti and the Dominican Republic," to
be held Oct. 15-22, 2003 on the Smith College campus. The series will
feature readings by Edwidge Danticat (October 15, Neilson Browsing Room,
4:30pm), Loida Maritza Perez & Myriam J. A. Chancy (October 18, Neilson
Browsing Room, 4:30 pm) and Nelly Rosario (October 22, Seelye 201,
4pm).

All readings are free and open to the public. This is a Meridians/Ford
Foundation Visibility Event.

As Haiti celebrates its 200th Anniversary of Independence in 2004, it
seems an appropriate time to bring together voices from both sides of
the island speaking to the realities of the conjoined histories of
Haitians and Dominicans from women's perspectives.
