VODOU DRUM AND DANCE GROUP PRESENTS RISING SUN: NIGHT OF FIRE ON DECEMBER
20 IN BROOKLYN

La Troupe Makandal, New York's center for Afro-Haitian drum and dance,
presents Part Two (Night of Fire) of Rising Sun: a Vodou Drama of Death
and Rebirth in Three Parts. Night of Fire presents Vodou rites common in
Haiti in late December. Greet the Marasa, the Twins who represent
childhood, the twinned nature of humans (male and female, mortal and
immortal), and the division of the original cosmic whole. Share in a
magical ben de chans (luck bath) prepared by the Petwo family, spirits of
fire. This performance also salutes Haiti's bicentennial of
independence. Drumming and song arrangements by award-winning Master
Drummer Frisner Augustin—"a spectacular drummer," according to the New
York Times. Choreography by Director of Dance and former Groupe RAM
member Mikerline Pierre. Admission at the door: $15 general, $10
students/seniors/members; $5 children. Seating is limited. Reservations
recommended: 718-953-6638; makandal-ny@juno.com
