In collaboration with Rada Film Group, Talkstory Films, 2004 Images, New
York University Institute of African- American Affairs, M'Wem, and Zone
Productions, this program will focus on contemporary Haitian cinema as well
as offer a sneak preview of the upcoming Haiti on Screen Film Festival,**
which will take place in New York City from March 31 to April 4, 2004.

Tchala, L'argent des Reves
Film: 1:00 p.m.
Michèle Lemoine. 50 min. 2003.
In roadside stalls in Port-au-Prince, men and women engage in a national
pastime, the lottery, in hopes that they hold the winning ticket for a
better life. (Voice-over translation)

Film: 2:15 p.m.
Maxence Denis. 2001. 25 min. Haiti/France.
This energetic documentary celebrates two contemporary sculptors, André and
Céleur. Inspired by Vodou and Haitian history, they use recycled materials
to transform an area of Port-au-Prince into an informal museum and vibrant
workshop. The soundtrack is composed of loops from traditional Vodou songs
mixed with ambient sounds. (With English subtitles)

Looking for Life
Film: 3:00 p.m.
Claudette Coulanges. 2000. 60 min. Haiti.
This richly photographed film, shot in marketplaces and homes, exposes the
way in which two women, Anne-Rose Trejuste and Rosemene Marcelin, have
organized an innovative credit network system. (With English subtitles)

Haitian Film: Visions of the Future
Panel Discussion: 4:15 p.m.
The discussion will focus on trends in contemporary Haitian filmmaking both
in Haiti and abroad. Panelists include Gary Dauphin, film critic and
editor-in-chief of the Internet magazine Africana.com, and Guetty Felin, a
filmmaker currently living in Haiti and cocurator of Haiti on Screen.
Michele Stephenson, filmmaker and cocurator of Haiti on Screen, will
moderate the program.



**The Haiti on Screen Film Festival was created in order to commemorate the
bicentennial of Haiti's independence. This program will feature films about
Haiti by Haitians both at home and abroad and by foreign filmmakers. For

All programs are free with suggested Museum admission. Neither tickets nor
reservations are required. Seating is limited and is on a first-come,
first-served basis. It is recommended that you arrive in plenty of time to
enter the Museum and locate the program space. Please use the main entrance
at Central Park West at 79th Street.
