18485: Bunn -- Corbett adds: Re: 18477: Laleau: Re: 18469: Esser: Haiti's few Jews shun politics (fwd)

With all due respect, Petion Ville is quite upscale compared to much of PAP
and sometimes the ATMs even work!. It all depends upon one's perspective.
But, hey, they even have the casino there. An interesting place, to say the
least, especially if one speaks espanol.

Gary, I had the same reaction. Here in St. Louis, MO I doubt we are so
different from many other places. Technically the CITY of St. Louis ends
at certain points and the rest of the metropolitan area has other names
and there are even other counties of formal jurisdiction. But we refer to
many many of these suburbs as ST. LOUIS. In the same way, while I know
that TECHNICALLY Petionville is a separate suburb, I think of it as "part"
of Port-au-Prince and definitely an upscale part.

I was surprised at that being such an issue that it would suggest the
journalist had never been to Haiti! I've been there more than 50 times
and I think the same way the journalist does.
