18896: Sylvain: Some Notes (fwd)

From: patrick sylvain <sylvaipa@hotmail.com>

The complexity of the current situation requires level-headedness and a keen
sense of memory. While it would be quintessential for any president to
serve out his or her term in office in order to maintain constitutional
order and stability, it is nevertheless more important to protect the
fundamentals of that constitution as they relate to the balance of power as
well as to the integrity of the national sovereignty and the guaranteed
protection of the citizens.

We must never forget that Louis Jodel Chamblain is a criminal, a
cold-blooded killer. I was almost shot by him in October of 1993 and I also
interviewed several of his victims for PBS-Frontline. It is indeed a
tragedy to see members of FRAPH operating openly again in Haiti. Chamblain
should be captured and executed.

We must also remember, although it was necessary to disband the army, the
way in which Aristide went about doing it was unprofessional and simply
fueled the hate towards him. Keep in mind, thousands of those soldiers
remained armed and unemployed. Consequently, a lot of the former soldiers
turned out to be Zenglendo, drug runners and now rebels.

Given the international community’s need for order and the establishment of
law in Haiti, and they are insisting on Aristide serving out his term; they,
along with the weak Haitian Judicial system, should bring Aristide,
Mettayer, Toussaint, Phillipe, Civil, Ketant and other folks to justice.
Having a public trial of the chimères, drug traffickers, corrupt leaders and
criminal business folks would be the best example of democracy and the best
possible solution for our chaotic country.

As for Congresswoman Maxime Waters, next time you go to Haiti, stop spending
most your time at the Montana and in the Palais. Fact-finding is done on the
terrain and among all the sectors of society.

If Aristide had understood the arts of politics and the meaning of
constitutional rules, he would not have been caught in this mess. This could
have been prevented since March of 2000. But, then again, by 1996 he was
already selling rice and lending money.

For the record, Aristide did not liberate Haitians from the Duvalier regime
he was simply one of the spokes in the anti-Macoute wheels. Titid, stop
your Grandiloquence.
