19241: Walton: Article: CARE Haiti launches largest urban food distribution in 5 0 years (fwd)

From: "Walton, Robert" <robert.walton3@us.army.mil>

Dear Mr. Langford:

I believe that it is in the US government's enlightened self-interest to
assist CARE Haiti.

To that end, a copy of the Reuter's news article
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/fromthefield/107731029515.htm
<http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/fromthefield/107731029515.htm> together
with the point items below should be provided to the Department of State
(Haiti) and congress. (Hon. Maxine Waters would likely take the lead in
congress. Email and fax addresses for other legislators are available at
http://www.nytimes.com/partners/politics/congress.0.html
<http://www.nytimes.com/partners/politics/congress.0.html> )

1. Joe and Jane Haitian are more hungry than scared and if they can be fed
in Haiti, they'll stay in Haiti and that should be reason enough for the US
government to support CARE Haiti's efforts by providing foodstuffs and fuel,
etc.

2. Care Haiti has a working distribution structure in place in Gonaives.
(You might also explain what would it take to expand CARE's efforts to other
sections of the country.)

Regards.

Bob Walton
