19665: haitiaction: *** DEFEND HAITI *** Media Calls Urgently Needed (fwd)

contact numbers for the media and Congress listed below

Dear Friends,

At this critical time in Haiti's history, it's imperative to force the media and Congress to deal with the fact that the United States government engineered a coup against the democratically elected government in Haiti, and to hold our "selected" officials responsible. Please do all you can do to spread the word.

Guy Phillipe has proclaimed himself the new head of the Haitian military. Several officials and activists have been arrested already Deaths squads roam the streets, many people have been killed, and the lives of many more -- currently in hiding -- are at risk.

Thanks for taking action,

Haiti Action Committee

Post-Coup
Demands and Talking Points for
the Media and Congress

* Denounce the US-sponsored coup.

* Return Aristide to power as the legitimate president of Haiti. Aristide was "kidnapped" (in his own words.) He did not voluntarily resign.

* Protect Aristide, Fanmi Lavalas officials, members of the popular organizations and the population in general from the military.

* Grant refugee status to Haitians fleeing US-sponsored death squad terror.

* Investigate the role of the United States government in the coup, inlcuding the State Department, the military, the CIA, and the various intelligence services. Who supplied the weapons, logistics and training to the FRAPH death squads, former army leaders, and Duvalierists who have returned to Haiti? These criminal activities are impeachable offenses under the US Neutrality Act.

* No to reconstitution of the Haitian military.
