Subject: A call for help

Oaxaca, Tuesday, March 23, 2004

Friends:

Again an interruption. Last Tuesday I stopped my immediate efforts
in order to distribute the essay "Haiti: The Bicentennial Coup d'Etat"
by Emmanuel Wallerstein. It was useful, I thought, for the long-term
historical context that it provided. Now I have an urgent item, written
by Marguerite Laurent, a Haitian lawyer, seeking to prevent attacks by
those Haitians in the U.S. who are allied with the coup d'état
perpetrators, against those Haitians in the U.S. who support the
constitutional Haitian government. The idea, of course, is to terrorize
those opposed to the coup with implicit threats against them if they
don't keep quiet. We can help protect them by publicizing as widely as
possible the letter from Marguerite Laurent. <snip>

Sincerely,

George

Subject: Urgent
Death Threats are made Against pro-democracy Haitians in the U.S.

URGENT, URGENT, URGENT ACTION REQUIRED

Lawyers, Congresspeople, radio press friends and especially State
Department, Haiti Desk - Mr. Joseph Tilghman

RE: Message dated 3/22/04 2:19:25 PM, Johndanies writes:
FW. Subject: Affaire a suivre-Death Threats are made Against
pro-democracy Haitian-Americans and Haitians living in the U.S.

Time is of the essence. This note is informal but URGENT. I normally
don't open e-mail from this pro-dictatorship Haiti person calling
himself Johndanies (John Danies Craft?) on the internet. But, perhaps it
was well that I did. If I am getting this, it means it is being
indiscriminately circulated. Forewarned is forearmed. In light of the
current bloodbath in Haiti against the oustered President's supporters.
This is extreme. Threats are made against pro-democracy
Haitian-Americans living in the U.S. Their names, sometimes U.S.
addresses and passports are included in the list below of
"marked persons" who must be shut down!

Don't know it these passport information numbers or addresses he has
noted are accurate. But the list makes attacks on well known
pro-democracy activists. And, combined with the last "addresses" e-mail
Mr. Johndannies sent to us with the addresses of many of the
pro-Constitutionally-rule Haitian advocates living in the U.S, it seems
a very strategic plan to gut whatever is left of the pro-democracy
advocates not now in Latorture's jails in Haiti. Nothing should be taken
for granted here.

Lawyers, Congresspeople, radio press friends, please make some NOISE
here with your access and outlets and news media networks. There's only
so much the Haitian democracy movement can take on at once right now.
If anyone is interested in saving some pro-democracy lives right here in
the U.S., it might be worthwhile to investigate this man John Danies
Craft and the threats being openly circulated against Lavalas supporters
not only in Haiti but now in the U.S. , on the internet, and who knows
where else. There are delegations being planned to go investigate the
circumstances of the ouster of President Aristide and the reports of
arbitrary arrest and killing of democracy supporters. As I've noted above,
the last e-mail I called for help on, also because of information
circulated from this pro-dictatorship guy, contained the actual mailing
addresses of anti-coup-d'etat-Haitians in the U.S. his group wanted shut
down. Now comes this more extensive list with passport numbers (?) this
group wants to see selectively prosecuted and/or take out of the struggle
through deportation, U.S. State Department litigation or some other means.

The e-mail below is written in French. But it's easy for those of you
who don't speak French to just note, it's a list of pro-democracy
advocates, apparently U.S. citizens, including the two little daughters
of President Aristide and his wife, whom these people connected with
murderers and death squad leaders want taken care of, shut down and or
deported back to Haiti. It seems particular centered, not only on
Aristide's U.S. family and elected Senators, Deputies and
Constitutionally appointed Ministers from the democratic government, but
on Yvon Neptune, the Constitutionally appointed Prime Minister of Haiti.
It give Prime Minister Neptune's U.S. passport number (don't know if
true); his birth date, a home address in the U.S. as well as those of
several others who were in the Constitutional government and/or who
actively supported it over the last ten years. If the information
contained below, being disseminated is correct, no doubt high level
friends with Federal power may be furnishing this information.
Congresspeople PLEASE TAKE NOTE.

A task force is needed right here in the U.S. to investigate and protect
these individuals noted in the list below from message I received dated
3/22/04 2:19:25 PM, from Johndanies as a "FW: Subject: Affaire a
suivre". An investigation by the FBI or Congress is needed before
someone, a U.S. citizen of Haitian heritage, listed below, who supported
the one-person-one-vote-principle for Haitians gets killed.
