DISCUSS THE BORDER

SANTO DOMINGO -- Dominican President Hipólito Mejía and Haitian Prime
Minister Gerard Latortue met Friday to discuss security at the border,
promising to improve often tense relations between the two Caribbean
nations.

In his first official visit outside Haiti, Latortue said the Haitian
national police would work with the Dominican military to better secure a
mostly desolate 225-mile border.

Mejía and Latortue did not provide specifics on the new border cooperation
