TROPICAL NIGHTS

An exciting project in the works for Little Haiti -- the Haitian Heritage
Museum -- kicked off with a fundraising event at the Galerie D'Art Nader in
Coral Gables on Friday. Over 100 supporters attended the cocktail reception,
which showcased an exhibit and sale by noted Haitian contemporary artists
and a few of Haiti's old masters. Proceeds went to the HHM fundraising
campaign. The Haitian Heritage Museum is committed to highlighting and
preserving Haiti's rich culture and will provide a place to enjoy Haitian
films, art, artifacts and music. Singer/guitarist Gifrants entertained the
crowd with his own music, a combination of samba and Creole jazz. Galerie
D'Art Nader, owned by siblings Myriam, John and Georges Nader Jr. is
dedicated to promoting Haitian art. Among the guests were Eveline Pierre,
president of the Haitian Heritage Museum; Serge Rodrigue, vice president of
the HHM; Earl Rabess, Jr., development coordinator of Virginia Key Beach
Park Trust; Linda Schotthoeffer, director C-ONE, United Way; David Brown,
director of Urban Tour Host; Genji Jacques; R.C. DesRuisseaux, economist and
WLRN radio personality.

The first HHM Benefit Gala is set for October.
