22276: Kathleen: English class in Haiti (fwd)

From: kathleen burke <kathleenburke704@hotmail.com>

The young man who will be taking me to Bassin Zim tomorrow picked me up this
am to go to his English class with him. WE TOOK PICTURES of me on the
motorcycle, sothere you skeptics. In Hinche, about twenty young people
talked with me in English. Their teacher is very good. They had been
prepped to tell me what theydid, and to ask questions. Several journalists
were in the class; one of them had recently been in touch with Judge
Gauthier, who was so badly treated by thugs in his office in Hinche, it was
a cause celebre among legal professionals around the world. I met him, nice
guy. Nearly all of them were taking courses in computeruse, as well as
English. The teacher had come by horse, a way I must try soon.
I asked them aboutGuy Phillippe, who was in Hinche yesterday, to announce
his candidacyfor the presidency. He was staying with his 'equip' ("three
cars ful") near Teleco and also at the Maguana. One person said the ancien
militaire was not with him, but would vote for him. Another student said he
worked for Partners in Health and was a politician, would "die for Lavalas."
Rosemond Joseph, the artist who painted my mural of Eden and things to bring
back for sale in Gloucester, just dropped byto say hello. Lavoissier
(motoguy) told him I was here.

Gotta go. Best to you ALL. kathleen
