22794: (Chamberlain) Morocco, Spain to send troops to UN force in Haiti (fwd)

RABAT, July 27 (Reuters) - Morocco and Spain will send troops to join
the U.N. peacekeeping force in Haiti in a coordinated move to help the
Caribbean nation, Morocco's state news agency MAP said on Tuesday.
The decision was announced after telephone conversations King Mohammed
held with King Juan Carlos and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez
Zapatero, MAP added.
It did not say when or how many soldiers from the two nations would
join the Brazilian-led peacekeeping force.
The new U.N. special envoy to Haiti appealed on Sunday for more troops
before the U.N. force numbering about 3,000 so far could begin the task of
disarming rebels.
Haiti, the Western hemisphere's poorest nation, is recovering from an
armed revolt that led then President Jean-Bertrand Aristide to flee the
country in February.
