[Job Opening for a Legal Advocate

Domestic Violence Legal Project
AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY

The Association of Haitian Women in Boston (AFAB) is seeking a full-time
legal Advocate to work on a collaborative project with the Family Advocacy
Program (FAP). AFAB is a community-based organization founded by Haitian
women empower other women. AFAB’s mission is to equip Haitian women in the
Boston community with the tools and support necessary to improve their
social, economic, and political status in order to effect positive changes
in their lives. AFAB’s programs include housing advocacy, domestic violence
prevention /advocacy, adult education, and youth development. FAP is a
multidisciplinary legal advocacy program located in the Department of
Pediatrics at Boston Medical Center (BMC). It is dedicated to improving the
health of children and families cared for by the hospital and its affiliated
health centers through individual and systemic advocacy.

The Legal Advocate will work at AFAB to conduct intake of legal cases,
assess legal assistance needs of individual families and coordinate
community workshops for AFAB with an attorney at FAP. Substantive training
will be provided on domestic violence, housing and eviction, and shelter
information for homeless families. In addition, the legal advocate will be
trained on VAWA applications, naturalization and citizenship, asylum, and
family petitions.

Requirements:

I.	Fluency in Haitian Creole and English
II.	Familiarity with Haitian culture
III.	Experience working with the legal system (i.e. filling out forms and
advocating for clients)
IV.	Bachelor degree or higher education
