23047: St. Fort: Haitian Books Awarded Prizes at 6th Island Bookfair, Ouessant, France (fwd)

Posted for Hugues St. Fort (Hugo274@aol.com):

The results of the 6th Island Bookfair (August 19-22, 2004) that took place
on the Island of Ouessant in Brittany, France, have been proclaimed and there
are 2 Haitian books that were awarded a prize.

1. In the category "poésie" (poetry), the book that has been given the top
prize is "Anthologie de la littérature haïtienne. Un siècle de poésie:
1901-2001", (Anthology of Haitian Literature. One Century of Poetry: 1901-2001),
Montréal, Mémoire d'encrier, 2003 by Georges Castera, Claude Pierre, Rodney
Saint-Eloi et Lyonel Trouillot.

2. The "Grand Prix des iles du Ponant" has been awarded to the book:
"Anthologie secrète" by Davertige (Villard Denis), Montréal, Mémoire d'encrier, 2003.
Davertige is the pen name used by Villard Denis who died last month in
Montreal where he has lived for nearly 30 years.

For those of you who read French and who would like some background on this
bookfair, please see the literary column that I have been writing every
Wednesday since January 2002 in the Haitian-American weekly, The Haitian Times
(www.haitiantimes.com) especially Vol.6, #34, August 18-24, 2004 entitled "Tous à
l'assaut d'Ouessant", page 2.
