23130: Holmstead: Wyclef's uncles and the Return of the Haitian Miltary (fwd)

From: John Holmstead <cyberkismet5@yahoo.com>

Thank you for this tidbit: "Wyclef's uncles, Raymond
and Leo Joseph, run Haiti-Observateur."

I think this explains more about his reactionary
politics than "Wyclef's willingness to be
non-doctrinaire in his choice." Uncle Joseph is one of
the most reactionary fellows I have ever met and has
ended up representing Haiti in Washington as a reward
for a lot of crap he dished up in his rag. The list of
is endless for anyone familiar with it.

I just read a letter from a friend who is pretty upset
by this whole affair with the Haitian military. From
Port au Prince he writes, "As for certain sectors now
lamenting the return of the military, it was their
brand of equivocating intellectualism and blind
attacks on Aristide and Lavalas that opened the door
on this whole mess. They softened the ground with a
constant barrage of lies and half-truths that took
away the popular movement's moral authority to defend
itself. A moral authority borne of decades of struggle
and blood could only be undone by those who were most
intimate with its vulnerabilities and weaknesses. Only
those who had once professed to stand for progressive
change in Haiti and with the movement of the poor
majority could ultimately deliver unto it the most
fatal blows. Let them live forever with their
conscience knowing that their dishonest brand of
intellectualism unleashed the killers and the thugs
upon the Haitian people. They may one day come to
absolve themselves, for this is something the Lillian
Pierre Pauls, Nancy Rocs, Pierre Esperances,
Jean-Baptiste Chavannes', Chamy Chalmers', Gerald
Pierre Charles' and Arnold Antonins and their ilk have
come to excel at, self-absolution. As for the Haitian
masses, I don't think they will ever forget nor be
able to ever forgive this class for throwing them to
the lions once again."
