The fare increase may be because of the booking timeframe and is part of
their fare policies. As a person affiliated with an airline (not American), I
would say to talk to them and see if they can give you a break because of the
circumstances. Find out who their community relations person is at the corporate
level and tell them you are organizing a relief effort. Maybe they will help.
