23354: Re: 23343: (Chamberlain) Aristide backers threaten to behead foreigners (fwd)

I have been quietly following Haiti events for months. A lot of what was
happening was to be expected after regime change. However, the latest
violence has reached levels of behavior that are pure evil. The young men
in Gonaives stealing from women and children should be shot dead. Most
recently in Port-au-Prince, a girl I know very well was almost burned alive
by Lavalas militants. This happened last Thursday. Ironically she is
studying diplomacy at a university. She is one of Haiti's best and
brightest. Her crime: going to work. She is from humble background. She
pays for her studies by being an anchorwoman for a TV station. She got her
job on pure talent and merit not through connections. The car she was in
was shot at in Martissant. All windows were broken. The attackants blocked
the doors while they leaned inside and poured gasoline on all 3 occupants.
They then poured gas on the car and set it on fire. The Lavalas guys
retreated so they would not burn if the car exploded. Fortunately for all 3
they were able to escape out of the car and to run the 100 feet or so into
"Cite l'Eternel" where a good soul hid them in a Charcoal storage area.
They were shot at as they ran to safety and credit God for protecting them.
Hours later, they came out of hiding and had a difficult time finding a home
where they could make a phone call. They called the police and other places
to no avail. Eventually someone who knew someone in power took them to the
national palace area where they contacted their families to say that they
were safe and to ask for clothes to wear as theirs were all coated with
gasoline and black dust. In the meantime, this girl's family had heard on
the radio that she had died. The assailants recognized her from the
television evening news and forwarded to the radio stations that they had
killed her. By then she was in a state of shock and could not speak. Her
family would not believe that she was still alive since she could not speak
on the phone.

How do you deal with people capable of such heinous crime? Apologists will
try and blame poverty, bourgeoisie, the United States, etc... to justify
their behavior. It is time to quit trying to justify crime. There are
millions of suffering poor people in Haiti raped and abused daily by these
thugs who themselves would never do such evil acts no matter how hungry,
sick and miserable they are. Can such criminal people be redeemed? Would
a steady job with rules to follow ever satisfy murderers? I don't think
so. The UN presence in Haiti is pure joke. The same people who were
complaining about the heavy handedness of the young marines last March are
now wishing they were there. In 1991, those "Casque Bleu" were getting
robbed by street kids all the time. Today they refuse to help disarm the
criminals. The reality is that many rather die than turn in their weapons
since they know what their own neighborhoods will do to them if they don't
have guns. How can such a weak UN face this new crop of blood thirsty men?
Most of those UN guys first priority is to send a paycheck back home. Where
are the Haitian of old days? There was a time that neighborhood tolerated
thugs to a point then lynched them. Today everyone is scared. Women are
raped while neighbors next door do nothing as they hear the crime in action.
They do not realize that they will be the next victim. Nowhere is safe:
children cannot go to school, those who have jobs can't go to work safely
and those with no jobs are still attacked in their own homes.

Everyone knows that the solution is elimination. There is no disarmament
possible without killing a good portion of those guys. A huge percentage of
Haitian of all social classes own guns. Those who are not criminals would
surrender theirs when cornered. The criminals will shoot and will have to
be killed.
