Amnesty International representative requests Venezuela's help on Haiti
by Vanessa Carolina del Valle Marcano

Amnesty International's representative in Venezuela, Marcos Gomez,
has requested help from the Venezuelan government to preserve the
life of human rights workers currently at risk in Haiti due to a
potential threat of violence present in the Caribbean country.

During a meeting with Executive Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel,
Gomez explained the severe need for help to the human rights workers
in Haiti, in view of the current humanitarian crisis and the overall
volatile situation in the country.

"We would like the Venezuelan government to help us save the lives of
human rights defenders who may need to leave Haiti."

Rangel and Gomez also discussed the success of the ongoing police
program involving cooperation between different police forces in the
Caracas Metropolitan area and agreed to hold future meetings with the
help of the National Executive.
