23713: (reply)lyall to Donoviel to Wilson's post: Compromise?

From: J.David Lyall <postmaster@lyalls.net>

I have to wonder from what world you watched the haytian elections of
2000.
For 6 months people of good will were waiting for lavalas to agree to obey
the
haitian constitution and schedule run off elections for the senate seats.
(Hayti has a system like Louisiana's. An actual majority of votes cast is
necessary to be elected.) There wasn't any internal political opposition,
not
really. It was Tabah versus the meddling international observers.

All they had to do was have run off elections. Such incredible stubborn
stupidity has driven the country onto its knees again.

The audacity. Who was talking about compromise after
the 2000 elections? Not the opposition. They wouldn't

      even entertain the idea.
