23847: Mike Levy - comment on passing of Father Michael-(Re: 23841: Rowley: Former list member died in Haiti) (fwd)

From: Mike Levy <mlhaiti@cornernet.com>

If only the stunningly sad news of the passing of Father Michael Graves,
which Don Rowley thoughtfully shared with the list, were a Twain-like
fiction that would somehow help to inspire a weary public to care even more
about the poor, fight even harder for democracy, justice, human rights, see
even more clearly through the doublespeak, double standards, fraud and
misinformation about Haiti, about the poor, and about democracy everywhere.
Haiti can ill afford to be without such a courageous, passionate, witty and
hopeful voice.

After reading so many of his accounts, I'm sure many on this list will
continue to hear the echoes of that voice and what he has witnessed. He
deserves a prominent place in the roster of the courageous whose constant
efforts, thoughts and dreams were to improve the lives of their less
fortunate neighbors and speak out against oppression.
