23873: Labrom: (announce)Re : News: New Exhibition at MUPANAH (fwd)

From: jacqui Labrom <voyageslumiere@haitelonline.com>

Please go and see the new Exhibit at the MUPANAH (Pantheon/Historical
Museum of Haiti) downtown.

Dates:	12th December 2004 - 29th April 2005

TOPIC:	D'ayiti à Haiti, la Liberté conquise

PRICE OF ENTRY:	50 gourdes, less for students.

Description: This exhibition will remind Haitians of the battle of the
enslaved people which led to their liberation from the chains of
slavery. This revolution which took place at the beginning of the 19th
century led to the victory and the proclamation of the Independence of
Haiti on 1st January 1804 in Gonaïves.

Having seen the exhibition, I would thoroughly recommend everyone who is
interested in Haiti and its history to go and visit the museum. The new
Director of the Museum, Mme Marie Lucie Vendryes, who used to live in
Montreal, returned at the request of the Govt to head up the Museum. Her
life's work has been in museums so she is well qualified to do this
task. She has many ideas and plans which will bring the Museum to life
and to the attention of the people of Haiti and visitors.
The exhibit has many priceless documents dating from this period which
are well worth studying.

Mme Vendryes hopes to start an Association of Friends of MUPANAH, so if
you are interested in helping out and being a member then let me know,
as I have promised her that I will do everything I can to help. The
Museum is always well appreciated by visitors.

If you are associated with any schools or Colleges in Haiti then try and
take your students to this exhibition.
