Support Temporary Protected Status for Haitians

Ask your Representative to sign on to a letter requesting Temporary
Protected Status for Haitians

The Republic of Haiti recently celebrated 201 years of independence, yet
today the island suffers from political unrest, mass poverty and destruction
from hurricanes and flooding. In October 2004, the Haitian government
formally requested that the United States grant Temporary Protected Status
(TPS) to Haitians. The designation of TPS would temporarily protect Haitian
nationals living in the United States from deportation to the
disaster-ridden, impoverished and oftentimes-violent country. With new
leadership in the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of
State, and a new Presidential term, it is time to renew the Congressional
request for Haiti to participate in the TPS program.

Congressman Eliot Engel is leading an effort to send a letter to Secretary
of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff requesting Temporary Protected Status
for Haitians. Please encourage your U.S. Representative to cosign the
letter.
