24912: Simidor comments re Arthurs and Neptune (fwd)

From: daniel simidor <danielsimidor@yahoo.com>

The Haitian press has long ago abandoned any notion of
objectivity. What happens to “The Truth” in the
process is not pleasant. On the one hand Radio
Metropole, Caraibes FM, Radio Kiskeya, Signal FM,
among others, are militantly anti-Lavalas and intent
on casting Aristide’s supporters in the worst possible
light. Reuters’ Guyler Delva and Remarais’ Agence
Haitienne de Presse, on the other hand, are from the
Lavalas fold, and equally adamant on pushing a
pro-Lavalas agenda. Figuring out what goes on from day
to day in Haiti is like navigating a minefield.

The anti-Lavalas press, for one thing, pointedly
ignores pro-Lavalas demonstrations in the Bel-Air and
Cite Soleil enclaves, unless there is something
negative to report. Likewise Remarais and Delva
inflate the numbers at those events, and still portray
the Feb. 2004 Lavalas massacre in St. Marc as an NCHR
fabrication, even after Ann Fuller’s detail article to
the contrary.

Neptune by the way is a very silly man. His letter
from jail is a thing of pathos. The fact of the
matter is that Neptune did go to St. Marc in his
official capacity as Aristide’s right hand man, did
parade around with the Bale Wouze (Clean Sweep)
militia or posse, and gave them free rein to squash
the RAMICOS rebellion -- something that the police
could not do on their own. His desparate and demented
attempts to put himself above the law suggest a guilty
mind. Biting a woman guard to escape your day in
court is just not dignified.
