subject-return to normal life
Is the goal of increased numbers of peacekeeping forces to return Haiti to
"normal" life? Normal for Haiti means no jobs, extreme corruption at every
government level, millions of malnourished children infested with worms, no
justice, bribes as the norm, 80 percent of a population who can't read, slums
that defy description, no electricity most of the time, water that is not safe

to drink, no medical care for most of the population, international aid being
used to buy Mercedes for government officials to be driven on roads better
suited for donkeys, farmers put out of business by donations of food by well
wishers, bigotry, haves and have nots, masses of hungry children crying
themselves to sleep lying on dirt floors of thatched roofed huts, the absence
of

hope and on and on and on. Why would anyone want Haiti to return to normalcy?
