25534: Simidor (reply) Re: 25529: Simeus: Open Letter to President George W Bush. (fwd)

From Daniel Simidor, <danielsimidor@yahoo.com>

Dumas M. Siméus of Siméus Foods International wrote:

We Haitians and Haitian-Americans support the
assertion of Mr. Kofi Annan that
only the direct intervention of the United States
will stem the flow of
violence and bring about peace and security for all
of its citizens.

I?m as outraged as the next person by the new level of
political violence and the sheer hooliganism rocking
Haiti today. But Dumas Siméus? ?Open Letter to George
W. Bush? is such a betrayal of Haiti?s national
interest that it cannot go unanswered.

Mr. Siméus doesn?t speak for this Haitian citizen.

Mr. Siméus doesn?t speak for all the Haitians and
Haitian-Americans I know.

U.S. foreign policy toward Haiti, historically, can be
hardly characterized as benevolent.

U.N. Peacekeeking Chief Jean-Marie Guehenno?s recent
statement that conditions in Haiti are worse than
those of ?internally displaced people? in the Darfur
region is a straightforward indictment of the inhumane
treatment of Haitian refugees in the U.S., the
Dominican Republic and the CARICOM countries. By
turning that statement into a plea for yet another US
invasion of Haiti, Simeus betrays all the refugees
involved.

U.S. troops outside of the European theaters (WWI &
WWII) are neither peaceful nor respectful of human
life ? from the Indian wars to Central America,
Vietnam, Korea and Iraq, the list goes on.

The assertion that ?only the direct intervention of
the United States will stem the flow of violence and
bring about peace and security for all of its
citizens? is one fine piece of Orwellian double-speak!

Peace and security for ALL Haitians, when what?s being
advocated is another ?Shock and Awe? operation to
purge the slums, the so-called outlaw areas (zones de
non-droit), of all the despised Chimères,
gang-bangers, assorted Lavalas supporters -- otherwise
known as ?kokorat,? ?rat pa kaka? and other endearing
terms!

I know Mr. Siméus doesn?t claim to speak for all those
undesirable elements. Is he also telling us that they
don?t rate as Haitian citizens?
